John Kirby, a spokesperson for the US National Security Council, described as deeply concerning rumors that Russian President Vladimir Putin was planning a coup in Moldova. After declaring that Vladimir Putin intended to use foreign saboteurs to topple Moldova’s government and prevent her country from entering the European Union, Maia Sandu, the president of Moldova, made the comments. Ukraine has had Moldova as an ally.
Reports received from our Ukrainian partners indicate the locations and logistical aspects of organizing this subversive activity, Maia Sandu said. “The [Russian] plan included sabotage and militarily trained individuals disguising themselves as civilians to carry out violent actions, attacks on government buildings, and hostage taking. The plan also calls for the deployment of non-natives in violent deeds.”
Moldovan intelligence services also acknowledged that Ukraine had obtained a dossier outlining the purported Russian plot.
According to John Kirby, Vladimir Putin is capable of trying to stage a coup, despite the fact that the United States has not independently corroborated the reports.
Very alarming reports. Without a doubt, we support the people and government of Moldova. Although we haven’t seen any independent proof, it’s clear that Putin’s strategy is being followed, according to John Kirby.
However, Russia denied the charge and blamed Ukraine for inciting hostility between Russia and Moldova, saying that such assertions are entirely false and unsubstantiated.
